Tomorrow's Top 5

Current Time:   Articles must be created before

Starting Monday, December 28, 2015 we will be changing the method used to send out the Tomorrow's Headlines email.

These instructions were updated 1/11/16 to make it easier to find the Top5 article templates.

ARTICLES MUST BE CREATED BY 4:45PM on the evening they are being sent. Email is sent at 5pm.

In the former (MOS) system, a form is filled out and submitted. In the new (Town News) system, one article needs to be created per content section. The sections are:

Local News (daily)
Local Sports (daily)
Business (daily -- when there is content)
Living Well (Monday for Tuesday)
Weekend (Wednesday for Thursday)
Currents (Thursday for Friday)
Home & Garden (Friday for Saturday)
Lifestyles (Saturday for Sunday)

To create the article:

  1. Log in to blox.thehawkeye.com (or blox2.thehawkeye.com if out of the building)
  2. Click on "BLOXCMS" in the upper-left then choose Editorial > Assets
  3. Click "Reset"
  4. In Print slug box enter Top5* then press enter
  5. If Start time column is not set to descending, click that column heading
  6. Right-click on the appropriate article for the Top5 you will be creating
  7. Click "Duplicate" to open asset editor
  8. In the "Body Copy" area
    1. Replace each bolded "Headline" with a headline
    2. Replace each "First paragraph…" with a summary paragraph of the story
    3. Delete any unused Headline and Paragraph placeholders
  9. Triple-click in "Start date/time:" box then press delete
  10. Click the calendar icon in under "Start date/time:" then click on the day before the section will be in print
    Do ONE of the following based on the section you are creating for:
    • Local News, Local Sports, & Business -- click on today's date (should be highlighted)
      OR
    • Living Well - (the closest Monday in the future)
      OR
    • Weekend - (the closest Wednesday in the future)
      OR
    • Currents - (the closest Thursday in the future)
      OR
    • Home & Garden - (the closest Friday in the future)
      OR
    • Lifestyles - (the closest Saturday in the future)
  11. Click on the "Other" tab
  12. Triple-click in "Delete date/time:" box then press delete
  13. Click the calendar icon in under "Delete date/time:" then click on the day before the section will be in print
    Do ONE of the following based on the section you are creating for:
    • Local News, Local Sports, & Business -- click on today's date (should be highlighted)
      OR
    • Living Well - (the closest Monday in the future)
      OR
    • Weekend - (the closest Wednesday in the future)
      OR
    • Currents - (the closest Thursday in the future)
      OR
    • Home & Garden - (the closest Friday in the future)
      OR
    • Lifestyles - (the closest Saturday in the future)
  14. Click on the "Workflow" bar
  15. For "Workflow" choose "Print and Web"
  16. Click down arrow next to "Save" button and choose "Promote to 1-Ready for first read, save and close"
  17. Reopen asset
  18. Click down arrow next to "Save" button and choose "Promote to 2-Send to website, save and close"
